This fall, University Liggett’s student section has brought a new burst of color and creativity to games with themed nights and nonstop energy. From neon outfits to beach gear, the stands have become a showcase of school spirit.
“Having themes really motivates people to show up,” said senior student section leader John Lubera. “It makes it more fun for everyone.”
The student section is changing how athletes feel on the court and field. Players and coaches say the cheers and energy build confidence, strengthen teamwork, and bring the school community together.
Attendance has also seen a change. At the girls’ volleyball senior night, about 40 students filled the bleachers.
Varsity volleyball coach Jillian Twardowski said the support made a huge impact. “Our senior night section was probably the best student section I’ve seen,” she said. “It made a really big difference, especially on a day that was already special.”
Varsity volleyball player Catie Suarez agreed, saying that when the student section shows up, she feels like everyone plays more like a team and that it gives them that extra push they need.
Athletic Director Brian Anderson added that seeing students “jumping around” and enjoying themselves is one of the most rewarding parts of his job.
According to junior Jade Saunders, the reason to show up is simple: students who stay home are “missing out” on being part of something that’s bringing Liggett’s community closer together.
