On Sept. 2, 2025, the University Liggett senior class painted their own parking spots in the football field lot.
This was the first time in school history that the seniors were allowed to paint parking spots, which delighted the seniors but presented challenges.
The football field parking spots are specifically reserved for the senior class. Any senior who painted a spot is required to park in it during school hours.
Ryan Cordaro, senior class president, expressed that it was an important experience to have as a senior class because many other schools also do it. “I felt that it was something we needed to have for our seniors.”
Senior Madeline Hexter agreed, “It was like a cool experience.”
Matt Lapolla, dean of students, also liked it. “The kids did actually a really great job with the parking spots.”
The student council originally planned to provide brushes and paint. However, as they ran low and had to replenish them, they went $1,500 over the initial $2,500 budget.
Students also shared their frustration over the unexpected extra costs.
Hexter said paint ran out quickly, so she had to purchase her own. “I spent a hundred bucks on this project.”
Cordaro, who admitted the faults in the plan, agreed that students should have bought their own materials. “One hundred percent. I think that’s what we should have done. And I hope that the junior class, the rising seniors, do that.”
