Power Dance Company Community Identifies Studio's Contradiction 

Power Dance Company is a pre-professional dance studio located in Southeast Michigan. The studio has been open for 11 years, and the members of their community have mixed feelings about it. 

Power Dance Company has four groups within their studio: Mini Program, Pre-Elite, Elite, and Voltage Dance Company. Studio director Ryann Taylor said  their mission statement is to “prepare our dancers for college, commercial and dance team auditions.” 

Current student Maisie Plant believes the studio is fulfilling their mission. “They don't train like typical studios. They train like professionals, and they will train you to the best of your ability and their ability.” 

A parent of a former Power Dance student, Crystal White, somewhat disagrees with this statement. “Some of the dancers including my daughter that attended the school, felt that they got lost in the shuffle because it was all about win, win, win, trophy, trophy, trophy, practice, practice, practice. Which is great, but at the same time, some of the dancers lost their passion because it was more about the school winning.”
